Army Barracks Overhauls Expected to be Worth Over $9 Billion
The Army has requested $9.6 Billion to update barracks, including heating, cooling, and plumbing renovations planned across its installations. The Army owns approximately 6,700 barrack facilities worldwide.
The Army’s goal is to renovate these facilities by 2030 to eliminate any Q4 or Q3 rated barracks. This presents a large opportunity for federal contractors in construction, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, landscaping, and other construction-related fields.
These projects also include opportunities for set-aside contracts for small businesses across all socio-economic categories, including WOSB, (SD)VOSB, HUBZone, and 8(a) certified businesses.
“Our goal is, by 2030, we are not going to have any Q4 or Q3 barracks in the United States Army,” said Sergeant Major of the Army Michael Grinston.
According to ArmyTimes, a Q3-rated facility fails to meet the Army’s minimum standards, and the cost to improve a structure is no more than 40 percent of the replacement value. A Q4-rated facility fails to meet minimum standards, but the cost to improve it would exceed 40 percent of the replacement value.
Service leaders have made improving the Army’s housing situation a priority. Barracks heating, cooling and plumbing renovations are currently being planned across the Army’s housing portfolio.
