Christmas Comes Early – Q4 Federal Spending Spree

Government September Spending

July marks the beginning of the federal government’s fiscal year 4th quarter ended September 30th and the start of their annual year-end spending spree.

As federal agencies scramble to spend what is left in their annual budget, now is the time to get in front of government buyers. The fear is that leaving excess funds in your budget may prompt Congress to spend less in the following year.

Q4 is commonly referred to as “use-it-or-lose-it spending,” and it happens every year.

For example, during the months of July, August, and September the federal government spends approximately 1/3 of its budget, with the greatest amount of spending in any month of the year coming in September.

To take advantage of the Q4 spending, the most important step is to start early. Research expiring contracts and connect with these agencies ahead of time to build relationships. When it comes time to re-compete the award, you are already in their rolodex.

Beginning in July, reaching out to agencies that you have already built relationships with is a great way to remind them what you can offer and may prompt them to allocate some of that Q4 budget to your company.

If you are already on a GSA Schedule, make sure your information is current. Submit all required modifications and ensure your prices, products and/or services are up to date prior to the spending rush.

Q4 spending for FYE2022 is expected to exceed $200 Billion. Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy an early Christmas. When federal buyers need to spend, they turn to trusted sources.
